There are 120 questions. If you get a question right, you get a point.
If you get a question wrong you do not get the point (Note: there is NO additional penalty for getting a question wrong, so you should make sure you answer every question, even if you have to guess on some of them).
So, you can score a 1 or a 33 or a 75 or a 113, etc. on the CLT.
Every single question counts as a point. The CLT is scored on a range from 0-120.
If you take the Digital CLT, you will get your test results in about one week. Sometimes, it will take a few extra days.
If you take the CLT on paper, it will be about a month before you get your results.
Here's how you know if your CLT score is good enough:
Google "My Dream College average ACT Score" (ACT results are easier to find on Google).
Then, use the chart above to convert their average ACT score to a CLT score. Here's an example using Benedictine College: Their average ACT score is a 25. That's the same as an 85 on the CLT.
So, an 85 or 90 on the CLT is a pretty good score if you want to attend Benedictine.
Typically, you want to be at the average or slightly above the average ACT/CLT score for your dream college.
The average score on the CLT is 70.
If you're a Florida student taking the CLT to graduate high school, here's what you need to do:
Get a combined 36 out of 80 on the Verbal Reasoning and Grammar / Writing sections.
Get an 11 out of 40 on the Quantitative Reasoning section.
That means if you get an 18 on Verbal Reasoning, an 18 on Grammar / Writing, and an 11
on Quantitative Reasoning, you pass!
Remember - the Verbal Reasoning and Grammar / Writing scores are combined. So you could also get a 16 on Verbal Reasoning and a 20 on Grammar / Writing (16 + 20 = 36) and pass!
If you want to improve your CLT score, you need to do three things:
Here's what that means:
The CLT is different than every other test you've taken.
We teach you how the test is different, strategies for the CLT because it's different,
and how to answer every question type on the test.
You can think of this section as the Tips, Tricks, and Strategy portion of the Study Guide.
Learn how to pick the right answers faster, so you feel calm, confident, and ready to win on test day.
Here's an example of a framework you will learn that will help you on the CLT: "False or Irrelevant."
On the Verbal Reasoning section, every incorrect answer is either False or Irrelevant,
which means the incorrect answers either contradict the facts of the passage
or do not answer the question that is being asked.
These frameworks will help you answer every question on the CLT with confidence.
Finally, it's time to practice what you've learned.
