Basics of the CLT

The Classic Learning Test (CLT) is a college entrance exam kind of like the ACT and SAT.

There are three sections on the test: Verbal Reasoning, Grammar / Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning.

There are 120 questions on the test and it takes 2 hours.

When you take the CLT, it feels similar to the ACT, with a few key differences:

  1. On the CLT, the Reading passages are taken from authors like Plato, Shakespeare, and Jane Austen - compared to the more modern reading passages on the ACT.
  2. There is no science section on the CLT, only Verbal Reasoning, Grammar / Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning.
  3. And you can take the CLT online, from the comfort of your own home, every single month, in just 2 hours.

How Scoring Works on the CLT

There are 120 Questions on the CLT. You get a point for answering a question correctly. There is no additional penalty for missing a question.

There are 40 questions on each section of the test (Verbal Reasoning, Grammar / Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning).

So the highest score you can get on the CLT is a 120, and the lowest score you can get is a 0.

The average CLT score is about 73 out of 120.

And you can always compare your CLT score to an ACT score if that helps you understand what your CLT score really means!

For example, a 73 on the CLT is equivalent to a 22 on the ACT.

CLT and Florida Colleges

The CLT is accepted at all of the public universities in the state of Florida (University of Florida, Florida State, etc.) and many private colleges, too!

The CLT is accepted at 48 colleges in the state of Florida and over 300 colleges total.
